Blogged under Science by info on Friday 6 October 2006 at 10:25 am

Luna-Glob is the name of the official Russian project to launch a Moon satellite:
Vladimir Shevchenko, a professor at the State Astronomy Institute of Moscow State University, quoted by Interfax as saying at a scientific conference in Moscow, said:
“This may be followed by projects for new landing modules and Moon research vehicles.
And if such a program materializes, a Russian base may be set up on the Moon by 2011.”

He mentioned a hypothesis that the Moon’s numerous craters are the effect of a “space shower.”

Shevchenko: Kaka, my heir; comparison with Oliveira

Blogged under Football by info on Wednesday 4 October 2006 at 9:23 am

Chelsea striker Andriy Shevchenko said: “There is a man who can become my heir and that is Kaka, he is an exceptional player who still has an enormous potential.”
Kaka“You haven’t yet seen what Kakà [Ricardo Izecson dos Santos Leite] can really do, I am sure he will write an important page in the history of Milan.” said the Ukrain’s striker to La Gazzetta dello Sport.

“I have heard of a small disagreement between him and Coach Carlo Ancelotti, but there are always discussions in football teams. I don’t think that represents a problem just as long as there is mutual respect.”

“Milan’s form? We all go through bad periods as I am not scoring either, but these things can happen. You just need to be patient and wait for things to improve.”

“Ricardo Oliveira? He mustn’t feel he is constantly compared with me, when I started everyone reminded me of Marco Van Basten’s performances.”

Shevchenko return to Milan? He will finish his career at Chelsea said AC Milan vice-president Adriano Galliani

Blogged under Sport, Football by info on Wednesday 4 October 2006 at 9:01 am

The Chelsea striker Andriy Shevchenko will finish his career at Chelsea said AC Milan vice-president Adriano Galliani about the speculation this week amid reports claiming he could be set for a quick return to Milan.
Shevchenko ChelseaShevchenko insisted he was happy at Chelsea despite not yet being at his best.

“It’s useless feeding false hopes, Shevchenko is a Chelsea player and he will end his career there,” said Galliani.

“To us it will remain the fantastic memory of the seven years he lived in Milan and of his 175 goals scored.

“175, yes, because I consider also the one he scored in Barcelona, in the Champions League semi-final last year that had been unjustly disallowed against him.”

Shevchenko, ready to score in Ukraine-Scotland, Euro 2008

Blogged under Football, Euro 2008 by info on Tuesday 3 October 2006 at 9:49 am

Andriy Shevchenko will lead the line for Ukraine against Scotland in next Wednesday’s Euro 2008 qualifying match [http://www.uefa.com/Competitions/euro/index.html] in Kiev: the striker has scored only once in the Premiership this season but he’s ready to put off the shade by the exploits of fellow striker Didier Drogba.

Alan Hansen, the former Scotland defender, criticised Shevchenko on Saturday night on BBC TV’s Match of the Day but Stamford Bridge manager Jose Mourinho, however, is not worried by his goal drought: “He just lacks the goal which will give him more confidence,”
said the Chelsea manager. “He played very well up front against Villa.”

“He is better physically, he already has the beating of his markers in one-on-ones and he shows great speed of movement.
The work he put in for the team when without the ball was very good.”

Shevchenko’s diet

Blogged under Football by info on Tuesday 3 October 2006 at 9:37 am

Andriy Shevchenko insists his goal diet in the Premiership isn’t (yet) a problem.

His former AC Milan team-mate Kakha Kaladze said Sheva had made a mistake by leaving AC Milan but Shevchenko answered: “Life goes beyond football. I feel more free here than in Italy.”

“The life of a footballer in London is more simple, football is a show that finishes once the game is over.”

“Players go through difficult times and it happens to everyone. But I feel young and full of energy.”

“I chose Chelsea and I will continue on this path. Nothing can change my choice.”

About Roman Abramovich, despite his good relationship with Chelsea’s owner he said: “I’m not Abramovich’s golden boy. He takes care of all his players.”

After seven seasons at Milan, Shevchenko admitted he was glad Chelsea avoided his old club in the Champions League draw.

He said: “To have played against my former team-mates immediately after my move would have been a drama.”

Lampard still has faith in Shevchenko “Sheva is a top player, a natural goalscorer”

Blogged under Football by info on Tuesday 3 October 2006 at 9:17 am

Frank Lampard said: “Sheva is a top player and he’s playing in a team that’s winning and he’s working his socks off for the team.
Of course he’ll want to score goals because he’s a proven natural goalscorer.
But as long as he keeps working the goal will come and, once one comes, they will all come. We know that.”

Andriy Shevchenko, 30 on Friday, has been overshadowed by Didier Drogba (seven goals this season, including a hat-trick in Wednesday’s 3-1 Champions League win at Levski Sofia) since his £30million transfer from AC Milan.

He has only scored one goal in eight games for the Blues and has not found the net for more than a month.

Shevchenko: a blip or the yips? Think positively

Blogged under Football by info on Monday 2 October 2006 at 5:04 pm

Tony Cascarino on TimesOnLine written about Shevchenko “a blip or the yips?”.

The yips are when athletes are so affected by nerves that they cannot perform a basic action and he talks obviously about the six games without scoring of Andriy Shevchenko.
It happens, of course: whether you are the most useless amateur or a top professional, the yips can get you.

To him footballers are as vulnerable to the yips as anyone — particularly strikers.

He remembers when, at Aston Villa in 1990, Graham Taylor was his manager and somehow Taylor saw what he wouldn’t admit — that beneath his bubbly exterior he was troubled. The manager told him to see a sports psychologist who helped him to think positively.

It’s like José Mourinho, his manager, said: Chelsea are winning without Shevchenko’s goals. How good will they be when he is on peak form? The thought is enough to give Chelsea’s title rivals the yips.

STRIKING DIFFERENCE

Except for a blip in form four years ago (2002-03: 35 apps, 9 goals = 26%), Andriy Shevchenko has had a superb strike-rate throughout his career. Since he joined Chelsea, his rate of goals per game has dropped off the scale:

Domestic league and European cups (Champions League/Uefa Cup)

2006-07 (Chelsea): 8 apps, 1 goal = 13%
2005-06: 40 apps, 28 goals = 70%
2004-05: 39 apps, 23 goals = 59%
2003-04: 41 apps, 28 goals = 68%
2002-03: 35 apps, 9 goals = 26%
2001-02: 35 apps, 17 goals = 49%
2000-01: 48 apps, 33 goals = 69%
1999-2000 (AC Milan): 38 apps, 25 goals = 66%
1998-99: 40 apps, 28 goals = 70%
1997-98 (Dynamo Kiev): 33 apps, 25 goals = 76%
